Go Ape Treetop Adventure Friday Flip

Dear Bert,

Today was our first day of Trip Flip inspired fun! We took our husbands on a quick drive to Creve Coeur Park we found Go Ape, the only Treetop Adventure in Missouri. Go Ape is a ropes course among the trees that includes 39 crossings and 5 zip lines. Each station gets progressively higher in the canopy topping off at  40ft.

We started with a short safety session. Rule #1 Stay attached! (sound advice kids, safety first!) and then were off to tackle the course.

Ropes, swings, nets….Flying Carpet, Spider’s Web and even a skateboard to ride on your way down the final zip line.

We had a great time swinging like Tarzan, (Mike does a mean “Tarzan” call) but the day wasn’t without a few bumps and scrapes. Because Anita and I didn’t quite master our landing techniques, Anita ended up with a few scratches and I took home a few more wood chips (down the back of my pants) than expected.

Like the Go Ape motto, we're "Living Life Adventurously!",

The show Trip Flip and host Bert Kreischer, have encouraged us to expand our list of experiences. Open doors to possibilities, say Yes! We have created Friday Flip as our way to experience new adventures, share experiences with friends and celebrate life together. At Sosia we find reasons to celebrate and we celebrate often! Our wish is that our customers do the same. For more information about Trip Flip and how Friday Flip got started click HERE.

SUPERMAN CELEBRATION Friday Flip Warm UP

SUPERMAN CELEBRATION
My son is a HUGE super hero fan and he's always asking to go "Downtown" to see the superheroes. This weekend was the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, IL so we used this as a Friday Flip warm up by jumping in the car and taking a road trip "Downtown" to hang out with Superman.

Metropolis hosts the Superman Celebration every year but it is "SUPER" all year round. It's the official home of Superman where a 15ft bronze statue of the Man of Steel is front and center in the town square and across the street from the Super Museum. During the celebration, Metropolis hosts a variety of events for fellow fans to enjoy like the Strong Man Weight Lifting Competition, Film Festival, "Super" Celebrities from TV and Movies, Costume Contests and so much more!

We were surrounded by people in super hero costumes at every turn. My son was able to shake hands and take photos with all of his favorites. He was wide eyed and amazed the entire day. A great day of firsts for us all!

One of my favorite "Superman" of the day. He was taking pictures at the phone booth of the souvenir shop.

Super heroes everywhere and dressed the part from head to toe.

Dean Cain was this year's Superman. He signed autographs, took photos and participated in a Q&A session.

Adding to his checklist of Firsts, my son attempted to ride his first bull.

Our family has become hooked on The Travel Channel Show, TRIP FLIP!

Host, Bert Kreischer takes adventurous folks on spontaneous, one of a kind adventures all over the world. Not only are the locations unique and varied but Bert always finds unexpected activities that the typical traveler might miss. The participants just have to say "YES!" and Bert plans a trip that is a complete action packed surprise. Honestly, how amazing would it be to have a truly new and extraordinary experience customized for you? Freakin' Fantastic! That's what it would be!

Bert and the Trip Flip episodes have given us inspiration to experience more of the unknown with what we're calling our "Friday Flip". Each month, we'll find new local experiences, activities or classes to share with you. We'll post photos and a full recap of events on a Friday during the month. Instead of saying "I've always wanted to try that." we're flipping our day and joining the party :)

Currently, we're researching events and activities. Please feel free to make suggestions and share ideas in the comments below! What have you always wanted to try?

Gender Reveal....Waddle it be?

Gender Reveal

The Big Idea……

When my sister first found out she was pregnant she immediately began talking about ideas for her gender reveal party.  This was a totally new concept to me since it had been 7 years since my last pregnancy and these parties either didn’t exist or I had never heard of them.  So she had heard of the balloon release and the cake cutting, and she suddenly said to me, “Oh! Do you think you can make a bath bomb that releases color?”  So I have to give her credit for the idea.  We started experimenting right away, and voila….we had a totally new gender reveal idea.

 The  Big Reveal……

My sister is not the most patient person, so her husband picked up the secret envelope from their doctor stating whether baby was a boy or girl.  He locked it in his car and hid his keys from her.  I was totally expecting him to give me the envelope right away so I could make the reveal bomb to bring to their party; however Tom didn’t trust me either (boo).  No problem, I simply made a blue and a pink with hidden labels on the bottom to bring along.  He refused to give me the envelope until seconds before the big reveal (whatever Tom, I can totally keep a secret).  The party was going great.  We did a contest where everyone could vote boy or girl for $1 per vote, and winner gets the pot.  The girl votes were ahead by far.  When it was time everyone gathered in the family room around the bowl of water.  Tom FINALLY released the magic envelope to me.  I locked myself in the bathroom with both reveal bombs and the envelope.  I opened it up, wiped away a few tears of joy, and took off the gender label on bottom so no one else could see it.  After composing myself and putting on my poker face I opened the door.  First face I saw was my husbands, and I thought ‘wow, Tom was totally right.  No way will I be able to look at my sister’s face without letting her know’.  OK Tom, you were absolutely right, I cannot keep a secret at all!  So I handed the reveal to Mike and hid.  He passed it to the front, and the rest is in the video.  Please excuse the shakiness, my eight year old was taking it and she was REALLY excited. (She’s the one screaming ‘It’s pink!, It’s pink!’).

What an amazing, fun night!  Kudos to whoever started gender reveal parties.  How cool to be able to be surrounded by friends and family when you get such wonderful news!

Dinner and a Movie: Captian America

This week's Dinner and a Movie was Cap'n Crunch Chicken and Captain America. My son is a huge super hero fan, Captain America being his favorite so it was only natural that he choose this movie for his D/M week.
The Cap'n Crunch coated chicken is a sweat recipe that the kids devoured. Can't say its very nutritious but it's quite tasty. For dessert we made red, white and blue "shields" (aka sugar cookies) This is a fantastic recipe for kids to participate in the preparation. It has lots of fun jobs for little busy hands like crushing the cereal, breading the chicken and coloring/kneading the cookie dough.
I did make a few tweaks to the recipe provided. I used buttermilk instead of the egg wash and baked the chicken instead of frying it. Overall, we had a great time making a huge mess of the kitchen counters.
